TheDarkChristian:

6-21-01

*whew*

First of all, I need to apologize for the lack of a timely update last night. A little explanation: I got off work last night at 10:40, and it's a 20-30 minute drive home. I hadn't even begun on the strip yet. I got home about 11, and frantically began throwing together images, trying hard to remember the script Remmie and I had set out earlier this week. I had the strip finished by 11:40, and began to write my rant. About halfway through, the editor that I use (FrontPage Express) crashed, and I lost everything I had written up to that point.

Oh well.

I figured I'd just put up a quick blurb and then upload it. I was running out of time. So around 11:50 I connected to the Internet. I was halfway through the upload of the strip when Explorer caused an "illegal operation" something-or-other. I re-uploaded the strip and then uploaded the index page before logging off. Then I went to deal with the flood we had last night. >.<

I logged back on at about 1:30 to see if the update had gone through correctly, and to my horror, found nothing but a white page. Apparently when I had uploaded the index page, only 0 bits were sent. So there was literally nothing there. I hastily re-uploaded it and updated it before going to bed. I assume it worked, but haven't had the chance to check it yet... :/ Oh well. It seems that people from my board, close friends and family, and Jon from Save Point are the only ones who visit here. BTW, Jon, thanks for the plug on your page. If I'm the only one who reads your comic, then you're the only one who reads mine. ;)

About work last night: I am a waiter at the Rainforest Cafe, for those who didn't already know that. We're doing a nation-wide contest, which in some respects is cool and in others is not. Well, last night it was not. From the moment I walked in the door, it seemed the managers were angry with me. They basically said that I would get 30 points easily that night (my previous best being 19) or else... *shudder* I've only had this job for 6 or 7 weeks, and frankly, I hate working when I'm pissed. It's extremely difficult, even for someone with as much acting experience as myself.

Eventually, it became obvious that because of my desire to push the contest (for the managers' sake, mind you, not my own) I was selling more than usual, and getting much, much poorer tips... So to those managers that are pushing their employees so hard that they hate you: fuck you. We don't need petty people like you in the world. I have greater aspirations, and it's not my fault you decided to become a manager at a restaurant and waste your pathetic little lives.

That said, on to the comic news: Remmie and I have both drawn quick sketches for the strip, but nothing definite. We hope to have a hand-drawn strip up for Saturday, but which of us is going to write it or draw it still remains to be seen. We may have to stall Saturday so that we can get a good-quality strip up for Tuesday. We still have redo the third strip and one from a couple days ago that I frankly don't like and that Remmie wrote better scripts to. We'll see.

I woke up this morning to my father telling me calmly and rationally that I need to do more stuff around the house or move out. :/ I knew it was coming, but I didn't realize it would be now. Frankly, I don't have the money to move, even though that's what I really need to do. Having such limited 56k access to the 'net is killing me. It is literally impossible to get cable or DSL out here, even though five miles away it is readily available.

So Phantom, if you're reading this: are you ready to move out? I am looking for a roommate. Remmie: I liked your idea on the script better. I expect to see a strip on my desk by Friday. ;) j/k Besides, given your rant schedule, if I asked for it by Friday, I'd probably get it in a week or two. ^_~

~TDC, who is busier now than he thought he'd be...

PS - I should have the archives fixed later this week. I'm going to abandon the drop-down menu deal for now and just make links to a page where they are just listed... you'll see. :D
