Final Fantasy

Hironobu Sakaguchi can kiss my ass.

I went and saw Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within tonight, and was sorely disappointed. Granted, I had set myself up for a fall, as I have been waiting for this movie for nearly three years.

I only wanted one movie to succeed this summer, and it appears that my desires are for naught. Sure, the movie was stunning in its graphics, and the voice casting was superb. The ideas and technology expressed in the movie were intriguing and thought-provoking. But the storyline was disgustingly predictable, the music overly-dramatic and ending simply pathetic.

For those of you who are wondering, Nabuo Uematsu did not do the music for this movie, and Amano did not do the character designs. Indeed, the only place I saw any familiar names were in the Square credits at the end of the movie - the people who were credited with the foundational ideas of Final Fantasy, but had nothing to do with the movie. This is one soundtrack that I will not buy, sadly.

Square, you fucked up. You had the potential to make a great movie. You had a graphics team second-to-none, an all-star cast, and the all-important name of Final Fantasy. You have disgraced that name. Your characters were shallow, and there were literally no surprises from your storyline. I was more impressed with the Fast and the Furious storyline, and it was an action movie. The twists and turns usually found in a FF game simply weren't there. You dummied down your ideas so that the average movie-goer would understand them, and so doing failed to make a quality movie.

I found myself, at the end credits, stunned to find out the movie was over. There was no closure... but I won't spoil it for you. Reading the character names, there were only three I recognized: the main female and male characters and Dr. Sid. The other characters simply weren't... important. You have to make the audience love your characters, or it will mean nothing when you ki... I said I wouldn't spoil it, didn't I? *sigh*

Well, I was also looking forward to the LotR trailer, which Remmie assured me he had seen. The Spider-man trailer was surprisingly intriguing, and they might produce a quality movie there. But the Lord of the Rings preview was simply not there. So Remmie, where is my fucking trailer?

I had a little more time to work on sprites today, and I managed to make a Remnant sprite for every Chrono one I had. The TDC images are a little more difficult, but I think I can make do with what I have for a time. Today's strip was again hastily-constructed. I hope to carve out a long-term script for Reset with Remmie soon so I can start making strips ahead of time.

Oh, and a warning to those of you working on the Lord of the Rings trilogy: Fuck up those movies and I'll fuck up your planet.

~TDC, whose last hope for movies rides on the Lord of the Rings.

life is good.

Well, as much as I complain about my job, I really do make good money there. Worked for 7 1/2 hours tonight and made almost $130. I think I'll just leave you with that thought.

~TDC, makes decent money now and then

insert rant title here

(update: made an extras section which has two wallpapers in three sizes! Be sure to check them out!)

Just a couple of quick notes. Remmie and I are working on a long-term script for Reset so I can work on the strips each weak even without contact with him. Also, we're working on making wallpapers. We have a couple of ideas, but can always use more.
