TDC: 6-8-01 Well, I'm working on getting the archives up and running. Haven't heard from Remmie yet, so I guess the rant he has up now will stay that way for a while. Anyway, as far as the archives are concerned: the archives are my rants with the comics that were then current. Problem is, I'm working with code I've never worked with, and I can't seem to make it work. Any suggestions would be welcome. The reason I'm including the comics with my rants is that very often my rants are about the comic of that day. It just makes more sense if the comic itself is in front of you. :D Also, I updated the links page, made it a little (okay, a lot) cleaner, and removed a dead link or two. And now I think I'll actually rant: You know what pisses me off? (one thing, anyway) When you go to a movie and it really kicks ass. You sit through the credits to see who did the music (well, I do anyway) and you love the music so much you want to hear it again. Well, being still wrapped in the euphoria of the movie, you go out and buy the soundtrack instead of doing the sensible thing and downloading the music off napster. You take the cd home and are immediately disappointed. When you purchased the soundtrack, you were figuring it would be what it sounds like: a cd with tracks of sound from the movie. Not so. The first song is some fucking pop-culture remix of what was originally a good song. So you figure, eh, it was probably just one. Not so. After listening to the entire cd, you realize that only half the songs are worth listening to, and the other half have been redone by artists who someone apparently thinks are talented, and who might be worth listening to if they released cds of their own instead of putting their shit in the middle of my soundtrack... Okay, you got me. I saw Moulin Rouge this week and loved it. So of course I went out and bought the soundtrack. I was sincerely hoping to have actual music from the movie, and in part I was not dissatisfied. The songs that are on there are very good - but they're only the songs with words. What about the kickass music that happened during the dialogue? The sweet, sweet music that took place during the periods of "silence"? It was simply ignored, and will probably be impossible to acquire until I can buy the DVD and somehow record the music directly from the movie itself. In fact, the only soundtrack I really liked (lately) that met up with my criteria of a soundtrack was Prince of Egypt, and the only reason that worked was because they released the crap remixed music on two other cds (which I mistakenly purchased as well >.<). Actually, some pop shit ended up in a couple of places on the cd, but could be passed over fairly easily. (no pun intended) I guess I'm being too harsh and unrealistic. Several soundtracks have been good lately; for the most part, anything that had music by John Williams (Star Wars, Last of the Mohicans) or Hans Zimmer (Broken Arrow, Prince of Egypt) and the Mission Impossible (Danny Eflman) cd wasn't too bad. It had some remix stuff that was actually pretty good as well as the actual movie soundtracks without words. Of course, they released two cds for that, too... Is it really too much to ask that they release a cd of music that was actually in the movie and a seperate cd of music "inspired by" the movie? Come on, at least give us our money's worth if you're going to complain about us not paying for it. I could very easily go into a rant about Napster and the record industry, but I think I'll leave that for another time. ~TDC, who wants his money back, but won't go back to the store to try and get it PS - email me 6-10-01 Good news, on multiple fronts. I bought a scanner today, and with the storyline that Remmie and I discussed, we will probably be doing hand-drawn images by the end of this week, or early in the next. The Gameboy Advance will be available for purchase on Monday. ^_^ I can't wait! I already picked up Iridion 3-D and I'll get Bomberman on Monday along with the system. :) But all the good stuff aside, things really suck right now. I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to draw today. For some odd reason, I simply can't. I keep trying to draw a 3/4 view of TDC, but he keeps looking like a girl... >.< I hope to be able to go to the hand-drawn images soon, but I may have to do one day of filler... >.< Needless to say, I will do what I can to avoid such a thing... But if it comes to that... I'll make it worth your while. :D As far as the timing of the strip is concerned, I have decided to go with a Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday update scheme. That way I can work on the actual strips on Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Can't seem to get ahold of Remmie, so I don't know when his next rant will be available, nor how the next strip is going to go. Oh well... ~TDC, who can't draw today... |
