TDC: 6-12-01 *drooling* I hold in my hands the beauty that is Gameboy Advance. At long last, it is mine! For those of you who have been complaining about how much video games suck (namely Tycho and Remmie), complain no more! The GBA is video gaming at its best. The classic graphics and gameplay are back in beautiful 32-bit greatness. I have played a little bit of the new Mario title (Mario 2 with a few new features) Castlevania and Iridion 3-D. They didn't have Bomberman yet, so the guy at the store let me have Castlevania until it comes in. I won't mention your name in case you may possibly get in trouble for doing that, but you know who you are. Thanks! Iridion is a great shoot-em-up, but the 3-D format is a little strange, even for a shoot-em-up fan like myself. Nonetheless, it's a beautful game. I got it a few days before the release of the system, and read through the player's guide (since I couldn't actually play it). I was a little disappointed to hear that there were only seven levels. I said to myself "well, it better be hard as hell." It is. It took me nearly all my lives to get to the first boss, and my last was spent there before I could even scratch him. But the thing that most impressed me were the graphics. It has the old-school look with the new-school feel. Did that make any sense at all? Let's try again. You can see the actual pixels (yay!) but they are arranged in awesome 3-D patterns (double yay!) which give the game its beautiful look. The new mario game is mario. I've never been a fan of Mario 2, because mainly of the way it feels when you are playing it. It's like the whole game is "slippery". Nothing is a straight line except the ground. Your jumps, changed in mid-air, must constantly be altered, or you will not land anywhere near where you wanted to. But apparently the new stuff they've added to it make it worth buying if you like Mario 2. First of all, they added the original Mario Bros. (no, not super mario bros, just mario bros). They also added voices to the characters, (I didn't play it long enough to get annoyed with them) and "rounded" the graphics, making the game look better, even if it plays the same. Very similar to what they did to all the Mario titles for Mario All-Stars. Castlevania is simply incredible. It's just what you would expect from a Castlevania title. It has a feel very much like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which was one of the greatest games ever. My only complaint (my only one, mind you) about it is that it is a bit dark and difficult to make out the details at times. In short, the only thing I am really unhappy with about the GBA is that it isn't backlit. (That and the fact that my sister has played it more than I have.) ^_~ So if you're playing in bad light or darkness, you can't see at all... Oh well. Nintendo is shrewd, and I'm sure they'll make a backlit system in a year or two. I'm not sure about the quality of the comic today, since I made it in such a short amount of time and without a previous script. *shrug* Oh well. Better things to come, I assure you. Why haven't you emailed me yet? I know you haven't. Please do so. :) And tell your friends about Reset! ~TDC, whose life is now complete. |
