6-26-01 explanation: Finally, the name Reset makes sense. You see... Well, we'll explain the details later. All that's important now is that we have a reset button when we enter a game, as a way out. So, as we draw the first chapter to a close, we start at the beginning... You see, now we have more or less free reign. We have a few more explanations to do yet, but then we can do random strips and humor from any game, or do funny hand-drawn strips. As always, your requests are welcome. We will give you due credit (and perhaps something more...?) if we use your idea in a strip. Remmie and I got to hang out tonight over at his place, and he was cooking dinner... There were quite a few humorous moments that will no doubt find their way into strips... Warren Ellis is a fucking genius. If you have never read anything by him, go to your local comic book store right now and pick up a copy of Transmetropolitan. You're welcome. Special thanks to Phantom for... well, for being yourself. Your random humor and interesting point of view have been a great help the last couple weeks. Perhaps one of your "random art" strips will make it here on an off day... I'm planning to either pre-write my rants from now on, or I'll begin writing rants on off-days as well... I just have too many things to vent about. I also have a guest rant I want to use (even if the guy who wrote it doesn't want me to). Guess that's it for now. ~TDC, who is glad the comic is finally getting started PS - Remmie, where's my fucking column?!? PPS - fir3 is fr33... Visit Megatokyo now... 6-27-01 Netzero: Fuck you too I have to rant about this on an off-day, or it appears I never will. For those of you who don't know, Reset is made on a 380 mHz AMD K6 with a 4.3 Gb hard drive, 128 Mb RAM and is uploaded via a 56k connection. That's where the only real problem lies. I plan to update my computer soon, but it is impossible to get a faster connection. Yes, impossible. I live in the fifth richest county in the nation, but because we're one of the smaller cities in the county, we can't have faster connections. My town is dominated by Sprint. Literally. If you want to have a phone, you use Sprint. Well, that's fine if everything works. But to call outside your city, you have to pay an extra $45 per month... Or something like that. Oh, and there is no DSL out here. They have considered possibly having it out here by the end of the fucking year. So I call up SWBell... This is a Sprint market. What was I thinking? So I call up Time/Warner (one of the cable carriers, luckily not the only one). They have plans about like Sprint's about service times. So I'm stuck with my 56k, and pay roughly $55 per month to have a phone line that can connect to the internet. So I do my best not to pay for an ISP. That would be ludicrous. So I have three free ISPs. Here's the lowdown: Netzero is the one I use more often than the others. They give 40 free hours per month, and have a banner that takes up the entire top of the screen, moving everything else down. Also, while dialing up, there is NZTV, which plays a video commercial, and cannot be hidden. I just heard that they will be dropping to 30 free hours per month. Lately they have been advertising an upgrade for $9.95 per month with no banner ads and unlimited access. More on this later. Bluelight gives 12 free hours per month, so I use it as a semi-reliable backup. It's a little slower than Netzero, and disconnects the user after 40 minutes. Idiocy. Sheer idiocy. Lately, the've been advertising an upgrade for $9.95 per month that gives you 100 free hours... No thanks. Juno gives "unlimited" free internet access. I use the quotation marks because I only seem able to get about 10 minutes of reliable connection before my computer freezes up. Also, if you're in the top 5% of their users, they will limit your use purposely. I've seen an upgrade for Juno as well, but since the free version is even slower than Bluelight, I'm really not interested. Well, I ran out of Netzero hours earlier this month (my sister lives with us now and has been connecting to the net for such scholarly endeavors as joecartoon), and have been doing what I can to get Reset out on time. More than once, Explorer has performed an illegal operation, my ISP is half-connected, and I'm still trying to upload the day's strip... Needless to say, it's been a bit of a hassle. So I finally get fed up with it and decide to upgrade Netzero. I go to their sign up page and begin filling in the blanks. On the second page, I dutifully pull out my visa-backed debit card and enter my numbers and expiration date, then click the complete form button, or whatever it was. The page comes back up again, and thinking I plugged the number in wrong, I attempt it again. That's when I see it: "We do not accept debit cards." Why the fuck not? I was pissed. Still am, as a matter of fact. What is the big fucking deal? They don't want my money? Fine. Fuck them. Fuck them all. Buuuuuut... Don't fuck them too hard... I still need my 40 (soon to be 30) free hours each month... I feel like Spider Jerusalem, in the presidential debate. Forced to live with corruption one way or another. ~TDC, who just wants a decent connection. Is that too much to ask? |
