4-30-02 Humor? Random humor or plot device? You decide. Looks like keenspace is down yet again... If anyone knows any better providers, please let me know. I'm not using any of their features anymore... Anyway, mild graphical upgrade in effect, and nearly complete. I'm planning to finish the background soon. Also, I'll have animated buttons and banners before long. :) Then I'll get to work on the full-page ad, clean up the merchandise, fix the archives... Humor. What is humor exactly? What do we find humorous? From what I have seen, the only things that humans really find humorous is when someone (usually not themselves) is injured in some way, be it physically, emotionally, socially, or whatever. So it is only in the distress of others that we find amusement. So the entire human race is inherently sadistic. And we (for the most part) dislike sadists, therefore we dislike ourselves. Why do we find the suffering of others humorous? I think because it puts our own suffering in perspective, allows us to let it go, or simply because it hurts too much and that's the only option left to us. Why even ask the question? Well, frankly it's what separates us from the animals. There are other animals which make laughing sounds, but none that do so for mirth. It is what makes us human. Don't believe me? Search yourself. Think about the funniest thing you can remember. Looney Tunes usually comes to mind when people think of commercial humor. Think about all the funny things there. It's when a character gets shot, blown up, smashed or stripped, embarrassed or killed. Strange, neh? Just a bit of food for thought. Talk amongst yourselves. TDC, who is tired, broke, hungry, etc. |
